Chemo Day 4-7 Extended

1/27/2020 – 1/30/2020: Mom was on the last stretch of her first round of chemotherapy before her break. She was taking Dexamethasone, Vincristine and Doxorubicin – the struggle was real. She didn’t have motivation to walk her mile, she was barely eating, and on top of all that she had DIC (Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation). Her fibrinogen was too low. Mom’s day 4 chemo ended up extending through the next day. They were taking labs every 8 hours – numbers coming in lower than the last. She was given cryoprecipitate to help increase her platelets. At this point, mom was irritated. Her body was extremely tense, she could not sleep, acid reflux made it difficult to take her medication, and she wanted to go home. Although she completed her chemo on day 4, she was kept at the hospital for a few more days to monitor her labs. This was not what we expected. Mom received her 2nd lumbar puncture, which was little to no pain – what a trooper! Regardless of how hard it was to do anything these past few days, we admired mom’s attitude and strength to recognize what she needed to do in order to get better.
