1/11/2020 – Our mom hasn’t always had the best appetite, but that has never stopped her from enjoying tasty food! Mom would occasionally have symptoms of indigestion and acid reflux which was a known issue. This week was different. She was having problems digesting her meals so she decided to take Tums and other over-the-counter antacid medication. It helped so we thought nothing more and put this worry to rest.
1/15/2020 – A few days later, she noticed blood in her urine. Not much, but enough to get her weary about it. She continued to monitor this on her own.
1/17/2020 – I, Michelle (her daughter), was not aware of the blood in her urine until today. I had invited my parents over for a home-cooked dinner with my husband and I. When I called my mom the day before to tell her to come over for dinner, she informed me that she had been experiencing acid reflux so she wouldn’t be able to eat much. Not much of a surprise when she came over for dinner, she had a few bites and felt like the salmon wraps weren’t digesting very well. After dinner, as I was washing the dishes, my mom suddenly comes out of the bathroom in a panic explaining the excessive blood in her urine. It had gotten worse in the last few days. So I quickly took her to the nearest urgent care where she ended up throwing up in the lobby due to uncontrollable nerves. They took a urine sample and a few moments later informing us that it was a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). My mom and I looked at each other with relief knowing that antibiotics would do the trick.
